A Celebration of Southern Alberta Musicians and Their Music
About Us:
Our purpose:
- To run a series of music concerts so the people of Okotoks and area could watch and listen to the many fantastic musicians from Southern Alberta.
- To provide another desperately needed place for our local musicians to play and get paid.
- To get as much exposure as possible for these musicians and let the world know about the depth of musical talent in Southern Alberta.
Our Vehicles:
We will be running nine live music concerts per year over the fall and winter. Each concert would have three separate acts performing for 35 - 40 minutes. They will all be on Saturday evenings beginning Sept. 24 and ending March 17.
From the concerts we will produce a 26 segment television series that will be run twice a year. Shaw Community Access television is on board to video tape and broadcast the programs. Each program will be aired 6 times in a given week, two prime time, two late night and two weekend spots. A Room Full Of Sound will be aired approximately 26 times a month or 312 times a year. Airing is scheduled to begin in mid-November of this year.
Our People:
Rick Harding, a 32 year resident of Okotoks will be the Concert Promoter as well as the Executive Producer of the television series. Harding, a watercolour artist and videographer himself has, in the past, been a supporter of the performing arts in Okotoks as a member of the Mainstage Guild associated with the Alberta High School for the Performing Arts. He recently has turned his attention helping musicians get heard. Rick is part of Shaw’s Community Access Volunteer program.
Kirk Anderson is a Shaw Cable Systems Senior Producer and is the coordinator of their Community Access Volunteer program. Kirk has many years experience shooting and editing live music events. Working with Kirk on the 'A Room Full Of Sound' mobile shoots will be a number of volunteers that Kirk has trained as camera operators, switchers, graphics operators etc. Kirk will be directing the taping of the TV show from the 30 foot mobile control truck that Shaw is sending out to each concert.
John Fraser, a long time resident of Okotoks, ran Team Realty for many years and is now connected with Royal LePage Foothills Real Estate. John is one of the driving forces behind organizing the annual Okotoks Acoustic Christmas Concert and being an accomplished musician himself, ha also plays in the concert. John will be host/interviewer at our concerts for upcoming season. His great voice, laid back manner and his knowledge of the music business will be invaluable.
Our Venue:
The concerts will be held in the new Okotoks United Church located at 43 Riverside Drive. It is a big, bright, beautiful room with great acoustics, 225 padded seats and a stage that is 45 feet wide. This room allows for plenty of space to set up and operate TV cameras and has a brand new sound board and sound system.
